AERC 20th Senior Policy Seminar
GrOW Policy Workshop: Lessons from Sub-Saharan Africa
Lake Victoria Serena Hotel | Sunday March 11, 2018 | Kampala, Uganda
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is hosting a workshop at the 20th annual Senior Policy Seminar to present findings from the Growth and Economic Opportunities for Women (GrOW) program.
GrOW is a joint initiative of the IDRC, the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID), and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. The five year programme has funded 14 research projects in 50 countries around the world, and generated new evidence on women’s economic empowerment and links to economic growth in low income countries. GrOW is dedicated to promoting the use of research by decision-makers and seeks to enhance the research capacity of Southern-based researchers.
It is intended that the workshop will foster an exchange of ideas relating to strategies, opportunities and challenges in the region to achieve women’s economic empowerment. The exchange will take place amongst various stakeholders from the public sector, civil society, NGOs and academia.
The speakers will explore key questions such as: What explains the level of women’s labour force participation, and the type and quality of jobs they obtain? How does women’s care burden impact female labour force participation? How do patterns of economic growth interact with women’s
economic empowerment across different sectors?
